What is William's Syndrome?
By Definition William's Syndrome is "..a rare genetic disorder.It occurs in approx. 1 in 20,000 live births when a small amount of genetic material is "lost" on an individual's chromosome #7. This deletion occurs spontaneously. It is not inherited, and parents (unless one or both have WS) are not carriers of the deletion. "
The following is a list of typical ways WS can affect your child:
  • Cardiac disorders (Gage has this)
  • Excellent long term memory
  • Low birth weight (Gage had this)
  • Excellent memory of faces
  • Developmental delays (Gage has this)
  • Very endearing personality(even at 2 Gage has this!!)
  • Overly friendly
  • Learning Disabilities (Gage has this)
  • Unusually compassionate
  • Feeding difficulties (Gage has this)
  • Very talkative
  • Excellent vocabulary
  • Perceptual/Spatial difficulties Gage has this)
  • Strong passion for music (Gage has this)
  • Small stature (Gage has this)
  • Small, widely spaced teeth
  • Stiletto pattern in blue eyes (Gage has this)
  • Poor fine motor skills(Gage has this)
Gage also has a smile that will light up a room and a family who can't get enough of him.
